The Bama division of the Wal Mart BFL visited Lake Guntersville on September 12th, and 13th for the final regular season event of the year.

OMEGA Custom Tackle Pro James Allen Johnson made another strong showing with a solid 4th place finish in the two day event. Johnson made a 30 minute run from takeoff Saturday morning only to arrive to his primary area and find it covered up with 4 boats. Johnson quickly swung his boat around and headed toward his secondary area that he had located in practice. The move appeared to pay off immediately as Johnson boated a solid 4 pound Guntersville Largemouth on his second cast of the morning!

Johnson was fishing hydrilla in a deep ditch next to a flat that was matted with milfoil. " The sunny skies this morning had the fish pulled down off of the flat and buried in the ditch" explained Johnson. There was a lot of pressure on the lake however Johnson felt that his bait and technique made all of the difference in the world. Johnson's weapon of choice was "once again" the new Pro-Mega Jig by OMEGA Custom Tackle. Johnson testified " I have so much confidence in this bait! The design of the head, hook angle, red eyes, and it's ability to come through cover make it my go to bait! The Pro-Mega is truly a work of art!"

Johnson was working his BAMA colored 5/8 oz. Pro-Mega Jig on a 7' 3" Pitchin' stick, 17 pound Fluorocarbon, and a high speed reel. Johnson was making short pitch casts to the ditch, letting the jig settle and then violently ripping the jig from the grass and thus generating vicious reaction strikes! His day one limit tipped the scales at 16.06 and qualified  Johnson to fish on day two.

Upon arriving to his area on day two Johnson's water had dirtied up a bit and the fish had moved a little bit as well.  Johnson reconnected with his fish a bit shallower on day number two and found them also relating more to the milfoil than the hydrilla. Armed once again with a Flippn' stick and Pro-Mega Jig Johnson went to work in the grass. Johnson methodically picked the grass apart with the jig and boated a solid 18.11 pound limit! Included in his days catch was a 7.4 pound Guntersville hog that won Big Bass honors for the day!

After the event Johnson said" that the keys to his success were definitely sticking with the jig and creating reaction strikes by ripping it out of the grass. There was some pressure in my areas but the guys were throwing the usual suspects Frogs, Traps, Top-waters and they were not generating the quality strikes like the jig was."This jig is truly something special."

Note: James Allen Johnson and team partner Nick Reeves have won over $50'000 to date on the New Pro-Mega Jig by OMEGA Custom Tackle.
