Sean Lloyd Wins D97 Championship on Quaboag

Sean Lloyd continued his winning ways with district 97, winning the 2-day championship on Quaboag Pond.  This was Sean’s fourth win of the season and his third in the last four tournaments.  His bait of choice was once again a jig from Omega Custom Tackle.

Day-1 saw a slow start to the tournament with no anglers bringing in a limit and Sean weighing in just over 6 lbs in fourth place.  On day-2 his game plan was clearer and he managed 18.18 lbs with a 4.16 lb day 2 lunker, bringing his 2 day total to 24.50 lbs.

Second place went to the day 1 leader Jeff Tibbetts with a weight of 16.32 lbs.  Third place was Lee Hannah with a weight of 15.12 lbs.  By finishing near the top Lee managed to hold on to the AOY title by 3 points.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day championship and the American Fishing Tour National Championship which will be held this fall.  Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.

This win moved Sean up 2 places into second and well within striking distance of the division’s top spot with only the 2-day championship remaining.

The top five anglers were:
1. Sean Lloyd        24.50
2. Jeff Tibbetts      16.32
3. Lee Hannah       15.12
4. Fred Aubin         12.27
5. Larry Mongeon  11.40

Conditions: Recent rains created high, dirty water.  Skies were partly cloudy with rain threatening throughout.  Air and water temps were low 70’s.

Winning Strategy: Sean was flipping a prototype Jig from Omega Custom Tackle in 7 feet of water in the heavy grass.

Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be a 2010 earlybird on Hamilton reservoir in Holland, Massachusetts August 23rd from 7am to 3pm.
