Decatur Alabama's Wheeler Lake played host to the B.A.I.T. Tournament Trails team event out of Ingalls Harbor on 6/5/10. The OMEGA Nation team of Allen Johnson and Nick " The Clinic" Reeves put on a summertime main river ledge fishing clinic, by hauling in a monster 22.30 pound limit on Wheeler Lake! The duo fished the 7/8 oz. Pro-Mega Structure Fishing Jig in the 18 to 20 foot depth zone off of the main river channel. Johnson reported "The fish were holding just off of the shell beds on the very edge of the drops due to the lack of generation and no wind. We were dragging the jig really slow and when we would reach the edge of the shells we would shake the jig on slack line to trigger the bites." The bites were very light, almost like a Brim bite and then they would just swim off with the bait.
Johnson reported "The bite was very slow but we have so much confidence in the Pro-Mega that we stuck with it and it payed off! We did alternate between the Bama, Chobee, and Camo colors throughout the day however we don't throw anything else out here from June through September, this jig is the REAL DEAL!" The team not only took first place honors, but took the Big Bass purse too with a 5.50 Lake Wheeler Largemouth. Watch out for these guys as they are ledge fishing dynamo's and will be conducting several more "Ledge Fishing Clinics" over the next several months.
